Hotel Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

My first day in Quebec City ended in a fairy tale castle. We had dinner at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. It started with elegance when a limousine picked us up at the hotel and transported us to the front door of the regal hotel. Frontenac is a 19th century castle overlooking the St. Lawrence River and celebrities from around the world have stepped through its doors. We were whisked upstairs to the Grace Kelly suite. There we enjoyed champagne and appetizers before moving down to the elegant dining room. The room is rich in dark woods, painted ceilings and antique chandeliers.

I started dinner with caramelized duck parmentier with riopelle cheese, mirabelle plum bitter-sweet reduction. My main course was veal fillet with morel cream, crunchy parsnip and herb potato. The dessert course was fabulous. We had a trio of creme brulee -- maple, chocolate and raspberry. They were all good. The maple was the most unique. My favorite is still chocolate.

I had a full stomach as we rode back in our limousine to the hotel. I was definitely ready for the great things planned for the next day.
